Since the 15-90 began concentrating on search and rescue activities in 1963, their responsibilities in the community have regularly increased. At present these responsibilities include: the primary responsibility for all search and rescue activities in Butte-Silver Bow; secondary responsibility for search and rescue activities throughout Southwest Montana; being an integral part of the local, state, and Federal Defense Emergency System; members are unsworn auxiliary Sheriff's Officers; providing security, crowd control, and traffic assistance to the County; and finally, providing training and assistance to all age groups in wilderness survival and Emergency Medical Services.
